The Adventure Project and Energy 4 Impact join together to train female clean cookstove producers

24/05/2017

In this new partnership, Energy 4 Impact and The Adventure Project will focus on hiring and training 16 women to become stove entrepreneurs in Kenya. These 16 women will make and sell 3,200 fuel efficient stoves, benefiting around 16,000 people.

A $50,000 grant from The Adventure Project will co-fund the capacity-building activities of Energy 4 Impact’s Women Integration into Renewable Energy (WIRE) project in Kenya for a year.

WIRE is part of the Partnership on Women’s Entrepreneurship in Renewables (wPOWER), an initiative by the US Department of State to empower women entrepreneurs across East Africa, Nigeria and India to deliver access to clean energy.

WIRE and wPOWER will work with the female cookstove producers to develop and strengthen their entrepreneurial skills. They will do this through business mentoring, technology support, finance training, and leadership coaching.

When a woman receives entrepreneurial skills, she is able to earn a living while transforming lives in her community. These skills will empower women to learn how to run their own stove businesses, and to sell these life-saving stoves to people in their villages,

- says Becky Straw, Co-Founder and CEO of the Adventure Project.

The Adventure Project is a non-profit organization that “adds venture” capital to create jobs in developing countries. The Adventure Project gives people the tools, education and resources to become entrepreneurs, so these entrepreneurs can serve their own communities with a safer environment, clean water, nutritious foods, and improved health.

Energy 4 Impact works with energy businesses to support the growth of renewable energy markets.

Since 2015, The Adventure Project has provided funding to Energy 4 Impact to develop the market for high quality, locally produced Jiko Smart stoves. This support has hired and trained nine Jiko Smart entrepreneurs to sell over 9,100 Jiko Smart stoves. These nine entrepreneurs are bringing cleaner and cost effective cooking technologies to around 45,686 people, and they’re eliminating 68, 529 tons of CO2.

The $50,000 grant for the latest project was raised through The Adventure Project and their hundreds of supporters.

The Adventure Project is excited to partner with Energy 4 Impact to hire and train women to become life-saving stove entrepreneurs. This program is an incredible way for our supporters to create sustainable change in Africa,

- says Becky.
