Energy 4 Impact is supporting the initiative by providing $25,000 in match funding to campaigns that contribute to accelerate energy access in the form of solar, energy efficient cookstoves and biogas in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. This means that Energy 4 Impact will match contributions from the crowd, dollar for dollar, until all funding runs out.
The loans target individuals and entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia and are made via Kiva partners (micro-finance institutions and social enterprises) to support energy access in off-grid communities.
Some of the companies that recently have benefitted from the match funding are:
Pawame, a Kenyan company offering mobile-enabled, pay-as you-go solar home systems to off-grid communities, which raised $50,000 though the Kiva platform;
Sikubora, a Tanzanian solar energy company providing electricity through affordable mobile payments;
Simusolar, A Ugandan company offering and financing pay-as you-go solar fishing lights to fishing communities around lake Victoria;
Zonful Energy, a Zimbabwean company providing turnkey off-grid PV systems on a pay-as-you-go business model.
