Energy 4 Impact appoints new trustees and honours retiring board members

16/05/2017

Energy 4 Impact is pleased to announce the appointment of four new trustees, including a new Chair, to its Board. The announcement comes at a time when some of its founding board members are preparing to retire, after serving for more than a decade.

Matthew Mendis, the outgoing Chair, Hon. Carole Brookins, Matthew Whittell and Anil Cabraal are retiring from Energy 4 Impact’s Board in June 2017, after reaching their maximum term of office.

Their dedication and expertise have helped shape the organisation from a partnership between a number of bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors to the highly specialised, impact-driven NGO that it is today.

Four new members have recently joined, or are about to join, the Board, with Anthony Marsh, non-executive director of Green Investment Bank Financial Services, taking on the role of Chair from June. Most recently Anthony was CEO of Frontier Markets Fund Managers that managed the Emerging  Africa Infrastructure Fund and GuarantCo Fund, investing in  infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa.

Other new trustees include Sheila Oparaocha, coordinator of the ENERGIA International Secretariat on Gender and Energy hosted by Hivos International; Richenda Van Leeuwen, Chair of the International Institutions at the Global LPG Partnership and former Head of Energy Access at the UN Foundation, where she led engagement with the UN Sustainable Energy for All Initiative; and Dianne Rudo, Principal of Rudo International Advisors, an infrastructure finance consultancy firm, providing strategic, policy, programmatic and transaction advisory services and Director on the Board of GuarantCo, providing local currency guarantees to infrastructure projects in emerging and frontier countries.

"I am delighted to be appointed Chair of the Trustees. This is a very exciting time in Energy 4 Impact’s development for me to be helping the organisation and its partners deliver continued and sustained impact in sub-Saharan Africa. The need for reliable and affordable energy in areas where the power grid is not available remains as great as ever."

- said Anthony Marsh.

Ushering in the new trustees, the outgoing Chairman Matthew Mendis said:

"We are very pleased to welcome Anthony, Sheila, Richenda and Dianne, each bringing a wealth of experience from their varying and successful backgrounds and a lifelong commitment to economic development. I’m confident that they will make significant contributions to shaping Energy 4 Impact’s approach in the next phase of our development. It has been a real privilege and a joy to serve the organization over the last twelve years and to work with such an esteemed group of trustees and dedicates staff, whose commitment has enabled us to reach significant milestones. Energy 4 Impact has much to be proud of and is now well positioned to expand on its mission to increase access to affordable clean energy."
